Vintage: 1920s
Make: Diamond Point
Model: Gold-plated Overlay Flat Top
Color: gold with vertical line pattern
Materials: 14k gold-plated (1/30 gold) over black hard rubber
Filling System: lever-filler (resacced and guaranteed to fill to factory capacity)
Length: This full-sized model measures 4 15/16” capped and 6 1/8” posted.
Nib: Super-Flexible 14k Warranted #2 nib lays down a smooth and consistent F/M line (approx .5mm) that widens to a very impressive 4B++ (approx 2.8mm!) under very light pressure. Waterman Serenity Blue was having trouble keeping up with the flow under full flex, but this was entirely solved by switching to Omas Grey. So I’d recommend using wetter inks in this pen to ensure reliable flow over its full range of flex.
Condition: No dents, deep scratches, or other notable flaws aside from 2 pin-sized dings, both on the barrel: one just to the right of the lever spade and one on the edge of the blank barrel indicia (see timestamp photo). No brassing apart from hairsbreadth slivers around the edges of the captop and barrel-end. Hard rubber parts are factory black with no oxidation. Manufacturer imprints are all deep and fully legible.
Details: Founded in New York City some time before 1892, the Diamond Point Pen company came into its own in the 1910s, when it began making pens of its own.
