Vintage: 1920s
Make: Parker
Model: Baby Ring Top Overlay
Color: gold, machine turned in line and barely pattern
Materials: Gold-filled over brass
Filling System: button filler (resacced and ready to write). To fill simply submerse the nib and depress the brass button once.
Length: Measures a tiny 3 3/8” capped and 4 3/16” posted.
Nib: 14k Parker Pen nib yields Super-Flexible variation with Flexible softness, laying down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to a 3B+ (approx 2.0mm) under moderate pressure.
Condition: As cherished heirlooms, precious metal overlays of this era often feature personalizations. This one has a professionally engraved monogram “R.H.” on the barrel indicia (see timestamp photo). No dents or dings but there’s a 1/8” long, uneven spot on the cap where it’s not entirely smooth (see imprints/caps photo). Very subtle tough to spot in person. Thin slivers of brassing around the top and bottom edges of cap and slivers on the bottom edge of the blind cap I only caught sight of under a loupe.
Details: This is a rather scarce and exquisitely crafted pen is gold-filled (as stamped) and machine turned in a vertical line and barley pattern. In general, gold-filled Parkers are a much tougher find than Watermans or Wahls. Ring top is designed to hang from a ribbon, chatelaine, or pocket chain. And this one is also small enough to be worn as a necklace without it seeming especially oversized. From decorative rings in knurled relief to the solid metal blind cap, the fine detail work on every part of this pen is truly impressive. And it has a substantial heft in the hand for its size.
