Vintage: 1930s
Make: Conklin
Model: Sub-Endura
Color/Pattern: Red and grey pearl w/ black veins
Materials: Celluloid, gold-plated trim.
Filling System: Lever filler (resacced and guaranteed to fill and write as designed)
Length: This standard-sized model measures 5 1/8” capped.
Nib: Semi-Flexible 14k Conklin Toledo nib lays down a smooth and consistent F line that widens to a 3B or so (approx 1.3mm) under moderate pressure.
Condition: Gold-plated trim is pristine aside from one tiny spot (less than 1mm wide) of brassing at the very top of the clip. Celluloid has a smooth, lustrous surface with no deep scratches or other noteworthy blemishes – scarcely even any microscratches. Manufacturer imprint on barrel is deep and fully legible.
Details: Collectors coined the name ‘Sub-Endura’ to refer to models that were essentially scaled-down versions of the streamlined Endura Symetrik without the annular rings or crescent embedded in the caps signifying Conklin’s lifetime guarantee. This example is made of celluloid in a wild and wildly uncommon color pattern consisting of red and grey pearl with black veins. It has incredible depth and chatoyance in person. Gold-plated trim with double cap bands and functional rocker clip that raises at the bottom when the top is depressed. Crescent motif on the nib and lever hearken back to Conklin’s Crescent-Filler, the pen that first put the company on the map.
