Vintage: 1930s

Make: Unknown

Model: Unknown

Color: gold

Materials: Gold-filled overlay with horizontal line pattern over hard rubber

Filling System: Button-filler (resacced and guaranteed to fill and write as designed)

Length: FP measures 4 3/4” capped and 6” posted.

Nib: Super-Flexible 14k Warranted #6 nib lays down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.4mm) under light pressure

Condition: Near mint aside from professionally etched monograms on caps. Overlays have a smooth, lustrous surfaces with no  dents, dings, or deep scratches. No brassing at all aside from a spot on each of the cap tops (see album photo). Black hard rubber on the fountain barrel shows some scratches from the cap being screwed on over the years. FP cap posts securely on the end of the barrel. MP is mostly functional: gripping and propelling lead but needing some assistance with a finger to retract when the crown is turned.

Details: Curiously for such a high-quality set, there are no maker’s marks anywhere: neither on the writing implements nor on or in the box. Whatever the make, its substantial heft in the hand and its intricate engine-turned details attest to its durability. The pen is made of black hard rubber with a gold-filled Art Deco overlay in a horizontal line and relief-bar pattern that resembles overlays from Edward Todd. Companies would often out-source their overlays from the same source, so perhaps that’s the case here. Rivet clips with teardrop profiles from the side. The pen is a button filler. To fill simply unscrew the blind cap, submerse the nib, and depress the metal button once. MP propels lead when the top is turned. But the top also lifts upward to reveal another portion with an intricate engine-turned design. Not sure what the purpose of this could be - possibly to extend the pencil’s length.
