Vintage: 1940s
Make: Sheaffer
Model: Sentinel Deluxe 1500
Color/Pattern: Black w/ stainless steel lined cap
Materials: Bakelite C-11, stainless steel, gold-filled trim
Filling System: Lever filler (resacced and guaranteed to fill and write as designed)
Length: This full-length, wide girth model is similar in proportions to a “fat” Touchdown. It measures 5 1/4” capped.
Nib: 14k Two-Tone Sheaffer Lifetime conical nib lays down a smooth and consistent XF line.
Condition: There is a small, professionally engraved name in elegant script situated on the backside of the cap between the vertical lines. It reads “C.O. Kreutzer” (?). The rest of the cap is clean with no dents, dings, or notable flaws aside from a subtle ripple in the surface to the left of the clip (see 3rd photo). Gold-plated trim shows no brassing apart from a sliver in the center of the lever. Plastic has a smooth and lustrous surface with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel is deep and fully legible.
Details: Priced at $15 in the late 1940s, the Sentinel Deluxe was at the top of Sheaffer’s model lineup. It featured a two-tone cap: stainless steel with gold-filled trim to match its large, two-tone conical triumph nib with slightly upturned point in the “Waverly” style to enhance smoothness. White dot above the clip signifies Sheaffer’s lifetime guarantee. This example in black is an uncommon lever-filler model - most found today are vacuum fillers.
