Vintage: 1941
Make: Parker
Model: Vacumatic Desk Set
Color: Golden Pearl
Materials: Celluloid, gold-plated trim
Filling System: Vacumatic filler (diaphragm replaced, guaranteed to fill and write as designed). To fill simply unscrew the taper, submerse the nib, and depress the plunger until barrel is full.
Length: This desk pen with a long taper measures 7.”
Nib: 14k gold Two-Tone Vac arrow nib lays down a smooth and consistent F line.
Condition: Gold-plated barrel band is clean with no brassing. Celluloid surface of the pen is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other noteworthy blemishes apart from a tiny chip on the very end of the taper a lightly discolored area on the end of one side of the taper. Looks like superficial damage of some kind caused perhaps by that part making contacting with a corrosive substance – definitely not crystallization. Good barrel transparency of an orange color with ink level visible when held to light. Manufacturer imprint on barrel is deep and fully legible. Marble base has a couple minor, pin-sized chips on one edge and gold-plated tilting mechanism has quite a few scratches. Felt on the bottom of the base is worn away on the edges and sticker with model information is gone.
Details: The pen is a blue diamond model in Golden Pearl celluloid with chevron cap band from 1941 (date code with imprint on barrel). The base is made of solid marble with a trumpet in a dark mahogany pattern that’s made of a material I haven’t been able to identify (possibly Bakelite). Gold-plated accents including decorative ring on the trumpet and tilting mechanism attaching the trumpet to the base. Taper unscrews just like a blind cap and the pen is filled just like any other 3rd-gen Vac.
