Vintage: 1932-33
Make: Sheaffer
Model: Balance "Admiral" (avant la lettre)
Color: Marine Green (marble)
Materials: Celluloid, gold-plated trim
Filling System: Lever filler (resacced and guaranteed to fill to factory capacity)
Length: This full-sized, standard girth model measures 5 5/16” capped.
Nib: At some point, the original Feathertouch nib was upgraded to the Two-Tone 14k Lifetime nib that one would typically find on the Lifetime Statesman. That nib lays down a buttery smooth and consistent XF line.
Condition: This pen resembles a relic recovered from a time capsule. Perfect color with evenly bright greens across the cap and barrel. Gold-plated trim is pristine with no notable flaws such as brassing apart from the typical sliver on the clip ball. Also some minor wear to the rhodium plating on the edges of the nib. Celluloid surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other noteworthy blemishes - scarcely even any microscratches. Manufacturer imprint on barrel is factory deep and fully legible.
Details: The colorful, streamlined Balance was the pen that revolutionized FP design when it was introduced in 1929. The Admiral was essentially a Balance Statesman with a smaller Feathertouch nib and without Sheaffer’s white-dot lifetime guarantee. This example is made of celluloid in the eye-catching Marine Green marble color patter complemented by gold-plated trim with short hump ball-clip.
