Vintage: 1920s

Make: Unknown

Model: Coin/Matchstick filler

Color: Black

Materials: Black chased hard rubber (ebonite)

Filling System: Coin/Matchstick filler (resacced and guaranteed to fill and write as designed)

Length: This full-sized model measures 5 3/8” capped.

Nib: 14k Singer Pitts nib is a properly-sized replacement from the same period. It yields Super-Flexible variation with Flexible softness, laying down a smooth and consistent XF/F line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.1mm) under light to moderate pressure

Condition: Hard rubber retains its factory black color with no discernible fading. Chasing is factory deep and sharp with no discernible wear. Hard rubber surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other noteworthy blemishes.

Details: The coin filler operates on the same principle as a lever filler, using a pressure bar to compress the sac. But instead of implementing a lever, a coin filler is filled by submersing the nib and inserting a coin (or other coin-sized object) into the barrel slot to apply pressure to the bar. But what if you’re short of change (or change-sized objects?). This particular pen solves that problem by integrating a round hole into the middle of the barrel slot, facilitating the insertion of a matchstick (or matchstick-sized object) to fill the pen instead! This pen lacks a maker’s mark. It is made of black chased hard rubber. It has a slip cap (friction fit as opposed to threaded) and came clipless from the factory (no holes drilled for a clip).
