Vintage: c. 1916
Make: Parker
Model: Jack-Knife Safety 24
Color: Black
Materials: Smooth BHR, nickel-plated trim
Filling System: Button filler (resacced and working). To fill simply unscrew the blindcap, submerse the nib, and depress the brass button once.
Length: This oversized model has a thick girth and measures 5 1/4” capped.
Nib: Super-Flexible 14k Parker Lucky Curve #4 nib with “Lazy S” imprint lays down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.5mm) under light pressure. Thin hairlines, exceptionally responsive snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it an excellent choice for calligraphic writing styles such as Copperplate and Spencerian.
Condition: Black hard rubber retains its dark black color with just a hint of fading visible under bright light. Nickel-plated clip is clean with no brassing or other notable flaws. HR surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other noteworthy blemishes. Center lines of manufacturer imprints on cap and barrel are weakened but imprints are still mostly legible. Model number on barrel-end is deep and fully legible.
Details: Unlike Waterman’s #4-sized pens of the era, which were essentially #2-sized models with larger nibs, the Parker 24 featured a longer and thicker barrel and section. Much tougher to find than, say, a Waterman 54. This early Jack-Knife 24 features a Safety cap (marked "Jack-Knife Safety" with a 1912 patent date) designed not to leak when carried. Early, protuberant barrel-threads, encircled model stamp on barrel-end, and nib imprint all indicate mid-1910s production. It's made of smooth black hard rubber with nickel-plated clip. Knurled blindcap and cliplock. “X-mas tree” Lucky Curve feed.
